We hire for character first, and we are not flexible about it. Skills can be developed and knowledge can be acquired, but poor character is much harder to fix.
An 11-out-of-10 human with 8-out-of-10 skill will get to 10 on the skill. It does not work the other way around.

On leaving
We do not want to own anyone's career. If someone eventually becomes capable of doing something we cannot offer, that is not betrayal. It means we did our job.
People should leave better than they arrived.
